Donna Wilson and Rococo Chocolate Easter Eggs

By Hannah Beesley in Products

Donna Wilson has teamed up with Rococo Chocolates to produce this delicious range of hand-painted Easter eggs. Rococo is a maverick in the sometimes stuffy world of luxury chocolate, their three London stores decked out with Botticelli cherubs, pink walls and exquisite products and packaging. They are also famed for their award winning combinations, from the sublime white chocolate with strawberries to the award-winning milk chocolate with sea salt. Bet you're regretting giving it up for Lent now...

Donna's charming designs are hand-painted onto white and dark chocolate eggs. Some are filled with more-ish Rococo ganache chocolates, and some of the smaller eggs come with a bone china egg cup.

These three eggs arrive within each other, like traditional Russian Dolls but more delicious.

The trademark Rococo packaging has been given the Donna touch, that is, been covered in owl drawings.

These two are our favourites because they are so adorable (maybe partly because you get two eggs in a pack). Mmm, now when's our staff tasting?

Pre-order yours here, they are due in March if you can't wait until Easter.

Ruler for Measuring the Growth of Human Beings by Rob Ryan for SCP

Rob Ryan is a London based artist who specialises in papercut and screen printed designs. His intricate work features whimsical imagery accompanied by sentimental, honest pieces of writing. He has designed a 7ft birch plywood height ruler for SCP with a colourful screenprinted motif. It provides a mobile alternative to the traditional door frame for keeping a record of your child's growth and features a charming illustration and poem about how when we stop growing up, we inevitably start to grow out.

It is available in imperial or metric and measures up to 7 foot/214 cm. Can be wall mounted or just leaned wherever you like. Supplied with split-baton.

Growing up

By Hannah Beesley in Products

These seed discs from Bacsac offer a simple solution for urban gardeners. We gave a couple to our less than green-fingered manager Paul to see how he got on. Step 1: Remove from packaging. So far so good.

Step 2: Place in planter/pot. Excellent work.

Step 3: Cover with soil.

Step 4: Water. And now we wait.

And wait...

Success! Looks like a good crop.

The parsley is doing very well.

The chives, not so much. Hopefully just slow starters.

So there you have it. Easy gardening for everyone. You barely need to get your hands dirty. Seed discs are available here for only £3.60 in seven varieties. Ready, set, grow!

Ton Furniture

By Hannah Beesley in Products

Ton is the oldest producer of bent wood furniture in the world. Their products include the iconic Chair number 14, designed by Michael Thonet. The Czech company has been operating since 1861 when Michael Thonet laid the first stone of the original Thonet factory in Bystřice pod Hostýnem.

The factory was the largest of its kind and the company went from strength to strength. Ton has had many different guises including Thonet, Thonet–Mundus and finally Ton in 1953. Today TON is one of the major European manufacturing centres of quality bent wood furniture.

Ton offer a huge range of chairs, tables and other furniture. The bending process involves steam baths to allow for easy bending. To make the most curved parts, for example the back rest of a Chair number 14, a mould is used to prevent the wood cracking. The resulting pieces are simple, attractive and strong. Michael Thonet demonstrated the solidity of Chair number 14 by throwing it down from the Eiffel Tower at the World Exhibition in Paris where it was awarded the gold medal.

Ton continues to be a successful manufacturer, moving with the times to keep the designs fresh and modern. The timeless techniques used by Michael Thonet over 150 years ago are still relevant today. You can buy many Ton items from SCP here

Fibreglass shell chairs

By Hannah Beesley in Products

Whether you fancy vivid brights or subtle pastels, armchairs or side chairs, rockers or Eiffel bases, these classic fibreglass chairs are now in stock in a myriad of combinations.

These chairs are the most authentic modern day reproductions of Charles Eames' original 1950s design, using the same material and colour range. They are often referred to as the most significant furniture design of the 20th century.

In the early 1940s Charles and Ray had the opportunity to develop new methods of moulding and bending for the US Navy during World War II. After the war they continued to apply these techniques to their own furniture designs.

These models were shown to the public for the first time in 1948 at the 'Low Cost Furniture Design' contest organised by the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

SCP Garden Episode 2

By Hannah Beesley in Products

Quite significant growth this week, especially amongst the lettuce and tomatoes.

Impressive progress in the 4x4 Bacsac planter. Those peas are shooting up their bamboo poles.

These Bacsac planters can be used in a garden or inside like ours. Everything in the SCP garden is edible, yes even the pansies.

Blooming lovely.

SCP Garden

By Hannah Beesley in Products

At SCP East we've come over all green-fingered. We've made a makeshift garden in our window using an assortment of different sized Bacsac planters.

All of our plants are edible; we have peas, onions, lettuce, rocket, chillis, tomatoes and many more. Check back to see the plants progress as we wait for our first harvest!

Even these delicate pansies are edible.

Stig Lindberg cushions

By Lucy James in Products

SCP are now stocking Lustgården and Pottery cushions, available in store and online. These timeless designs are produced by one of Sweden's most important postwar designers, Stig Lindberg, whose classic print and ceramic designs became the hallmark of the Swedish Modernist Movement.

Originally produced by Ljungbergs Textiltryck in 1954,  Lindberg's prints were part of the highly successful 'Signed Textile' Collection which aimed to improve the status of textile design as an art form by letting the artists sign their work.

Ljungbergs Textiltryck is a Swedish textile house well known for producing high quality, screen-printed fabrics by renowned Swedish designers. Since 2005, they have been reproducing Lindberg's Lustgården print in red, black and green and Pottery print on a premium bleached cotton. Ljungbergs use traditional production techniques to ensure the quality is as good today as it was over 50 years ago.
