The Eadie armchair, designed by Donna Wilson is on show at The National Wool Museum as part of the Warp & Weft 2 exhibition. The chair, upholstered in Nos Da licorice fabric, can be seen alongside a range of Nos Da throws until next January. The exhibition showcases some of the very best British weavers who have developed their craft practice into the commercial arena through collaborating with weaving mills.
The Nos Da range is produced for SCP by Melin Tregwent, a traditional mill located on the Pembrokeshire coast. SCP and Donna Wilson developed the range of textiles including throws, cushions, picnic blankets and upholstery, using the traditional weaving techniques and skills that Melin Tregwynt still employ.
The fabric is produced using a double weave technique that Melin produced up to the 1950’s. These old designs used a coarser and thicker yarn that is not available off the shelf today. Therefore the yarn is spun and dyed especially for SCP in Yorkshire.
Donna, with her extensive experience in colour and pattern was able to take a traditional material and production technique and inject her notable style to create the unique Nos Da range.
The exhibition is on show until 8th January 2011 at The National Wool Museum, Dre-Fach Felindre, near Newcastle Emlyn, Llandysul, Carmarthenshire. SA44 5UP.

SCP AND DONNA WILSON SHOW THEIR NEW RUG COLLECTION
This September, in celebration of the London Design Festival, SCP and textile designer, Donna Wilson will be showing their new range of rugs at SCP East. Donna’s collection includes hand-tufted, knitted and flatweave rugs. Using these three very different traditional production techniques, SCP has created a collection of rugs, which excite and inspire but also fit a variety of needs. Handmade in India, all stages of the production process takes place under one roof from sourcing the fleece to weaving the rugs. “Visiting India was rich in inspiration and we were filled with admiration for the manufacturing processes and skills employed at the factories,” says Sheridan Coakley, owner of SCP.
Donna’s designs include:
Fairisle, a hand loomed rug with a knitted appearance and a pattern based loosely on the Fairisle sweater design.
Mountain Spot, a traditional flatweave kilim rug that depicts snow-covered mountain peaks.
Scope, Corners and Whirl, which are hand tufted rugs. Scope has been inspired by the colours and shapes found in a kaleidoscope while Whirl, employs Donna’s trademark, hand drawn leaf motif positioned haphazardly on the rug to create a wind-blown effect. Corners is a composition of vibrant blocks of colour, which creates a bold yet simple design.
“I wanted to put my own handwriting on the collection, as well as creating an exciting range of practical rugs,” says Donna. "The whole collection is based around fragments of colour and shape and playing with the composition and proportion of colour."
