Donna Wilson

Donna Wilson graduated in 2003 from Royal College of Art with an MA in Mixed Media and Constructed textiles. After graduating she set up her studio, which now produces hand-made products for sale in 15 countries. She has established herself as one of the most exciting young British textile designers with an impressive portfolio of awards, commissions and solo exhibitions.

Donna Wilson’s work takes inspiration from her childhood growing up in the Scottish countryside and the everyday oddities and deformities of life. Characterised by its playful nature, tactile aesthetic and multicoloured palette, her designs have won her fans the world over.

SCP was first introduced to Donna’s innovative textile designs in 2004 when they became one of the first retailers to sell her quirky range of creatures, which she designed during her time at the Royal College of Art. Donna’s relationship with SCP continued to blossom over the next 3 years and in 2007 she designed her first piece of furniture in the form of a multicoloured chesterfield inspired ottoman named Motley.

In 2008 her Hue sofa was launched at Milan and shortly followed by the Hue armchair, the Wilma and Molly stools. During 2009 and 2010 Donna continued to expand her furniture range for SCP with the launch of the Mabel sofa, Lola armchair, and the Frank, Henry and Ernest pouffes. 2009 also saw SCP and Donna Wilson’s first successful joint venture; a collection of traditionally woven throws, cushions, picnic blankets and bags entitled The Nos Da Collection. In addition to this, they have produced Sprig, a range of bone china crockery manufactured in Stoke On Trent.

2010 SCP and Donna Wilson went on to launch their first collection of rugs. Handmade in India, the collection includes, Mountain Spot, a flatweave kilim; hand loomed Fairisle and the hand-tufted Scope rug. Using these three very different traditional production techniques, SCP created a unique collection, which fit a variety of needs.

Last year SCP launched its next collaboration with Donna; a new range of Welsh woven textiles entitled Bora Da. In addition, the Rug collection has been expanded and now features Purl, a new hand-loomed rug available in three colourways. Also new for 2011 is the Munro chesterfield sofa and the popular Frank, Ernest and Henry pouffes in blue Treecloud. 2012 sees new textiles, rugs and a new chair from Donna for SCP.
