Facet by Piet Hein Eek is a collection of ceramics constructed from flat sheets of clay, rather than by using a mould. This unusual process gives each piece the unique characteristics of a hand-crafted object.
Facet by Piet Hein Eek is a collection of ceramics constructed from flat sheets of clay, rather than by using a mould. This unusual process gives each piece the unique characteristics of a hand-crafted object.
The inspiration for the Facet collection first came to Piet Hein Eek when he saw his children using a pasta roller. The Dutch designer works with ceramics in a similar way as he does metal; folding and joining the two dimensional material to create three dimensional shapes. For this reason the 'seams' between the different sides are raised, to give definition to the piece, and appear similar to a welded joint.
Due to their fragile nature and individually assembly, the facet bowl is akin to a work of art. Each one is unique, and shares the same ethic as the furniture created as part of the Waste Material Project.
