The Religious Icon mono print series by Brooklyn based illustrator, Mark McGinnis, is an evolution of his Master Debater series. The idea stems from the recent changes in French law prohibiting Muslim women from covering their faces in public. In Religious Icons, Mark explores a wide variety of religious dress from Muslim Clerics to Catholic Bishop, Sikhs to Islamic Jihadist, questioning how different they actually are. Although the styling differs, the function of each religions traditional dress remains largely the same. The series raises a deeper issues questioning the credibility of the French law.
Each design is screen printed by hand and comes framed.
