Brutal London book
Brutal London is a collection of evocative photography by Simon Phipps. Casting the city in a new light, Phipps’ unique photographs of Brutalist architecture, arranged by London borough, presents famous pieces of architecture alongside lesser known brutalist housing and municipal estates. The book serves as an beginners guide to buildings the reader may come across every day, an invitation to look differently, or to seek out celebrated Brutalism across the capital.
The portable size and maps for each borough make the book a useful and practical. The design, by leading design agency A Practice for Everyday Life, is brutalist architecture in itself, with rough textured edges and fonts inspired by the site maps of modernist estates.
