Kokeshi are traditional wooden dolls, intended to be given as a gift, which symbolise love and friendship.
Believed to have originated in North Japan during the early 19th century, they became popular as souvenirs and presents for people visiting the hot springs of the region. They are handcrafted from wood, with a simple form which lacks arms and legs. The head features a painted face, and the trunk is decorated with floral or graphic patterns, in hues of red, pink and black.
Available in 3 sizes, each is hand carved and painted, and therefore unique.
