Reiko Kaneko is a ceramicist, designer and educator based in London. She works at various scales in a range of typologies, designing both products for manufacture and bespoke pieces for commissioned projects. The focus of her working practice is on mastery of material and form.
The first pieces in this new Botanical collection were either sketched on in glaze colours or painted with white glaze. More recently, Reiko has closely studied the pâte-sur-pâte technique (literal meaning paste on paste), first pioneered in Sevres, France, and then at Minton’s ceramics in Stoke-on-Trent in the late 19th Century by French émigré Marc-Louis-Emmanuel Solon. Some of the latest pieces in the Botanical collection have been made using this classic technique, which Reiko has further developed with the application of a new digital process.
