End of Line Cardboard Ceramics
Cardboard Ceramics are corrugated ceramic cups, formed from single-use cardboard moulds. The moulds are filled with stoneware clay, and then burned away in the kiln - creating dense, overlapping textures on the ceramics inside. The cups bear the crumpled gesture of the cardboard, as if they are made of petrified paper. Cardboard Ceramics are a reaction to our profligate culture of disposable cardboard products. The making process turns generic wasteful cardboard into distinctive ceramic tableware. They are tactile, handmade, and rich with individual character - the antithesis of the mundane, expendable paper from which they are made. Cardboard Ceramics are handmade by Ray G Brown in his studio. Each cup is formed from its own individual mould - therefore, no two are exactly the same.
