D.151.4 armchair

Gio Ponti | Molteni

Gio Ponti’s passion for nautical furnishings stemmed from his direct experience in four ocean liners and two cruise ships that he either upgraded or built from scratch after the war. Featuring an enveloping frame, comfortable armrests and solid wooden legs with brass feet, Ponti designed variations of this chair for each ship.

Product Information

Molteni & C has renewed its focus on the masters of architecture and design with a project aimed at recreating furniture and furnishings designed by Gio Ponti from the 1950s.

One of the leading Italian architects of the 20th century, Gio Ponti revolutionised the worlds of architecture and design.Throughout his career, Gio Ponti endeavoured to produce a fusion of functionality and practicality with visually pleasing designs. While this idea persisted as a common inspiration in all areas of his work, it is particularly noticeable in the chairs he designed and produced during the 1950s.

This famous 1957 Via Dezza chair was designed as part of a furniture collection for his own home in Milan. The home, of course, was built by Ponti, and he subsequently filled it with furniture designed to fit his own taste and functional requirements. This re-edition armchair is produced by Molteni & C using original drawings from the Ponti archives.

The Punteggiato Velvet is authentically Gio Ponti, like the chair it was his own creation.
