Originally designed in the 1970’s Libuše Niklová’s inflatable toys were some of the first mass produced toys in Czechoslovakia. Part of her collaboration with Fatra, a brand founded in Napajedla that has produced and processed plastic since 1935, her designs cleverly used Fatra’s patents.
The inflatable toys come in a selection of animal shapes, their large scale adds a furniture function to the characterful designs. Niklová’s work is defined by her extraordinary sense of shape and structure, using minimal cuts of rubber and heated joints to create her abstract and practical designs.
A design classic from the 1970s, now reissued and made in Europe. Part of a celebrated series of inflatable animals in bright bold colors, exhibited in MoMA's ‘Century of the Child’.
