Ishinomaki high stool

Keiji Ashizawa | Ishinomaki Laboratory

Ishinomaki Laboratory is a community workshop established by designers in the wake of the 2011 tsunami.

A variation of the popular Ishinomaki Stool, Ishinomaki Laboratory have adapted their design to create a bar stool. It remains compact in size and lightweight, using as little material and component parts as possible. The engineered form offers strength, demonstrates craftmanship and is considerate to the environment. Made from Red Cedar, it is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

Product Information

Started in 2011 as a community workshop within the post-Tohoku earthquake and tsunami landscape, the Ishinomaki Laboratory has gone on to develop a range of simple products in the spirit of do-it-yourself. Their collection includes specially commissioned products from designers and architects including project founder Keiji Ashizawa, Tomoko Azumi, Fabien Cappello, Torafu Architects, Bahbak Hashemi-Nezhad, Taiji Fujimori, Tomás Alonso, Shigeichiro Takeuchi and Julian Patterson.

In 2017, SCP began manufacturing Ishinomaki’s furniture at their factory in Norfolk, UK, using the same materials and techniques as were used in the very beginning.
