Product Information

Description
Locally grown cotton is spun and woven into narrow strips of fabric which are then hand stitched together edge to edge, creating a larger sheet of fabric. After being soaked in a naturally made fixative, a mixture of mud and other natural materials is painted onto the cloth using a variety of objects including feathers, stamps and shells, with each design having individual meaning depending on the figures depicted. Once the painting is finished, it dries in the sun, followed by the removal of excess and rinsing - the end result is bold and full of contrast between the lighter cloth and the inky dark mud.
