British Rail Manual
Leaves on the lines, the wrong kind of snow, and soggy stale sandwiches never really helped British Rail become a brand that was truly loved by the nation.
Wallace Henning's British Rail Manual showcases the National Rail Service’s entire 1965 graphic identity. The original manuals spanned four volumes detailing everything from the symbol, logotype, lettering and colour palette, to guidance on signposting, vehicles, stationery and uniforms.
This reproduction collects the many original sheets, along with a selection of interviews and essays, including an interview with Gerry Barney, designer of the British Rail double arrow symbol.
