Cesca chair

Marcel Breuer | Knoll

Cesca is a tubular steel chair with a cantilevered frame and woven cane back and seat. It is a seminal design by Bauhaus member Marcel Breuer, who helped to popularise tubular steel furniture in the 20th century.

Product Information
With the 1928 Cesca chair and armchair, Marcel Breuer married traditional craftsmanship with industrial methods. The cantilevered form exploits the inherent strength of steel and gives the chair added flexibility and comfort, while the woven wicker cane inserts bring a lightness and character to the overall design.

Originally known as the B32, the Cesca chair was the first of its kind; combining materials in a simple yet sophisticated way. It helped to put tubular steel furniture at the forefront of contemporary taste, where it remains as a timeless design aesthetic.

Available with or without arms, Cesca seating is suitable for use in homes, offices and dining spaces. The KnollStudio logo and the signature of Marcel Breuer are stamped into the base of every Cesca chair.

Hardwood beech seat/back frames and arms with natural clear lacquer finish. Machine woven cane inserts. Frame: 25mm diameter round steel tube with chrome-plated finish. Glides: Opaque plastic glides shipped with each chair for optional on-site insertion to use on hard floors.
