Charles & Ray Eames | Vitra

Designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1948, La Chaise is an elegant lounge chair based on the principles of organic design. The iconic piece combines a moulded shell seat with a solid oak and chrome finish base.

Product Information
La Chaise was developed in response to a competition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1948. The shell shape draws inspiration from the 'Floating Figure' sculpture by Gaston Lachaise, and allows the user to sit or lie down comfortably. As an alternative daybed, La Chaise offers a structural, mid-century aesthetic well suited to statement living spaces.

Shell: polyurethane, white lacquer finish. Base: chrome-plated tubular steel. Cruciform base: solid natural oak, protective natural lacquer finish.
