Description
Distinctive in its side profile, the Standard chair was informed by Prouvé's understanding that chairs bear most of the weight in their back legs. This allows for slender steel tubing to be used for the front legs, while the angular, bent-steel back legs transfer most of the stress to the floor.
Produced today by Vitra, the Standard chairs were first developed in 1934 and went on to inspire further Prouvé designs, including the Chaise Tout Bois and Standard SP chair.
