Wassily lounge chair

Marcel Breuer | Knoll

£2,352.00

Inspired by the De Stjil movement of the 1920's and the possibilities of tubular steel, designer Marcel Breuer sought to simplify the classic lounge chair down to its essential forms. The result is the iconic Wassily lounge chair.

Product Information
Description
Breuer was an apprentice at the Bauhaus when he began working with tubular steel; exploring how it could be used to construct a more elemental chair. He drew inspiration from the functional forms, such as the frame of a bicycle, and the constructivist theories of the De Stjil movement. The Wassily chair was the result of this experimental approach; successfully reducing the form of the classic club chair down to its elemental lines and planes. It is an iconic furniture design which resides in the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art in New York.

The tubular steel lounge chair is upholstered in Spinneybeck belting leather, which creates a comfortable and highly durable sling that supports the body. It is modern armchair that, thanks to its visual lightness and polished chrome finish, makes a smart and stylish addition to any contemporary living room, study or office.

Manufactured by Knoll, the KnollStudio logo and the signature of Marcel Breuer are stamped into the base of each chair.
